What is SEO?
SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” SEO is a set of practices for enhancing the appearance and ranking of web pages in organic search results. SEO focuses on organic traffic rather than direct or paid traffic.
This involves providing high-quality content, checking your site’s technical health, gaining links from other websites, maintaining your site’s local search visibility, and so on.
There are three types of SEO.
- On-page SEO
- Off-Page SEO
- Technical SEO
On-Page SEO
On-page SEO is all about the content on your website. It involves strategies to optimize an individual page and make it more search engine and user friendly.
It’s important to keep in mind that while search engines view a website as a whole, ranking is performed at the page level. Therefore, it’s critical to optimize each and every page on your website.
The most essential on-page SEO parameters are as follows:
Page Title – Page titles appear in search results and should attract users to click on them. A page’s title should give search engines enough information about the page’s content.
H1 Tag – H1 tag is the top heading of a page. Keep only one H1 tag for the page, and generally, the H1 tag has the same value as the page title.
Page Headings – Subheadings (H2, H3) are required for the various sections on a page. Subheadings make it easier for users to read the content and crawlers to scan the page.
Image SEO – All the images on a page should be optimized properly, or else search engines won’t figure out what the images depict. Image SEO includes optimization of filename, file size, and Alt text.
Off-Page SEO
The majority of off-page SEO is associated with high–quality backlinks. A significant number of relevant, authoritative links connecting to your website indicates to search engines that your site is useful and established.
You can get quality backlinks through various link-building and guest posting activities.
Link building is the process of generating SEO backlinks from other websites. These backlinks increase the authority of your site.
Technical SEO
Technical SEO is the process of optimizing your website for crawling and indexing by search engines. The major purpose of technical SEO is to improve a website’s infrastructure.
Technical SEO enhances a site’s readability (making it easier for search engines to crawl and understand it). It delivers a better user experience, which helps search engines recognize that the site is of high quality.
The most essential Technical SEO parameters are as follows:
- Update your robots.txt file to ensure that search engines correctly access your website.
- Add your website as a property to Google Search Console (GSC) and specify your preferred domain.
- Generate an XML sitemap and upload it to all leading search engines.
- Optimize your website’s structure and URLs.
- Make sure that the website loads fast on both desktop and mobile devices.
To offer your site the best chance of showing up in search results, use all three SEO methods. As you plan your SEO strategy, use SEO tools that address all three components of SEO.
